10 Beaches That Are among the Best in the Caribbean
Stretching from the waters off of South Florida to the northern coast of Venezuela, the Caribbean regularly seduces travelers from around the globe with thousands of remarkable beaches. While you’d be hard-pressed to be disappointed by any Caribbean shoreline, travel experts know that some of these sandy respites have more to offer than others.
With the discerning beachgoer in mind, here are 10 of the region’s best beaches, listed alphabetically.
1. The Baths, British Virgin Islands
A place of undeniable natural beauty, the Baths stands out for the enormous granite boulders that dot its shoreline. Weave through the glistening rocks, and wade in the maze of sea pools located in the spaces underneath. Especially not to be missed is the enchanting Cathedral Room grotto.
2. Bavaro Beach, Dominican Republic
The soft white sand is the star of the show here. It’s so soft, in fact, that you’ll feel as though you’re walking on pillows. Good thing, then, that this beach stretches for a remarkable 30 miles, meaning you’ll have plenty of space for an extra-long stroll. While your every step is cushioned by the silky sand, admire how it sparkles between your toes.
3. Caracas Beach, Puerto Rico
A quick trip from Puerto Rico’s main island will bring you to the island of Vieques, home to this delightful remote cove. Located in a wildlife refuge, Caracas Beach is so secluded that you may be the only person here. Regardless of the company (or lack thereof), take the opportunity to splay out on the white sand and take a dip in the clear waters, where you can spot sea fans and colorful fish. The small palm trees are pretty, but they don’t offer much shade so make sure to bring an umbrella.
4. Crane Beach, Barbados
Formerly a working harbor, this beach takes its name from the crane that still sits atop the towering shoreline cliffs. Don’t let this industrial history deter you, however. With its pale-pink sand and bright-blue waters, Crane Beach is regarded today as one of Barbados’ most picturesque beaches. Beyond its beauty, Crane Beach has strong waves, making it a great place for body surfers and boogie boarders. Swimming can be risky, but there are often lifeguards on duty.
5. Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos
Gleaming sand, piercingly blue waters, and a coral reef replete with marine life are the big draws here. Grace Bay is considered one of the most visually stunning beaches not only in the Caribbean but in the whole world. When you add the fact that top-rated hotels and restaurants line the five-mile coastline, you’d be forgiven for deciding to make your vacation a permanent one.
6. Grand Anse Beach, Grenada
This nearly two-mile beach balances natural scenery with modern amenities. Multi-hued blue waters, almond trees, and picturesque green hills sit among lively bars, popular restaurants, and all-inclusive resorts. There are even craft and spice vendors. Water sports are popular here, so you may want to rent a kayak or jet ski to take out on the clear waters. You can also dive or snorkel to an underwater art installation that’s designed to regenerate the coastline’s coral reef.
7. Maho Beach, Sint Maarten
The quality of the sand and water makes Maho Beach a great place to relax. That is, if you don’t mind passenger jets buzzing overhead. That’s right, this shoreline on the Dutch side of the island of Sint Maartin sits at the end of an airport runway. The planes taking off and landing pass by so closely overhead that you’ll be able to feel the rumble of their engines.
8. Seven Mile Beach, Cayman Islands
While it’s actually closer to 6 miles, this crescent-shaped beach still offers plenty of places to luxuriate on soft, coral-tinted sand. For maximum decompression, head to the quieter northern section, and don’t forget to take a dip in the glimmering, richly blue waters. With its gentle waves, Seven Mile Beach is one of the best places in Caribbean to swim. It’s also a great place for families thanks to the ample amenities. Kids will be entertained by a stingray-populated sandbar.
9. Trunk Bay, US Virgin Islands
A perfect day trip, Trunk Bay sits within a national park on St. John. At this secluded destination, travelers can snorkel among 30 species of fish, explore a coral reef, hike on trails, and wander through historic sugar plantations.
As for the beach itself, it boasts jaw-droppingly white sand. There are also amenities like a snack bar and gear rental. With so much to do, you may find yourself making a second day trip, or even a third.
10. Varadero Beach, Cuba
If you only go to one beach in Cuba, make it Varadero. Stretching for 12 scenic miles, the “blue beach” enchants with shimmering waters, delicate white sand, and arching palm trees. Partake in diving, fishing, or any number of other water activities. Or simply relax under the sun, cocktail in hand.
